Ice Age

ice age: the meltdownWe see all the animated movies: Shrek, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles – you name it, we’ve seen it.

The best of them, which Ice Age is not, transcends the kiddie genre. Nemo is as creative and surprising as any movie aimed at adult viewers. The Incredibles, with its realistic treatment of emotional and social themes – and its humor – was one of the better flicks of 2004.

Ice Age, alas, doesn’t quite have enough mojo for an adult viewer. It’s a series of episodes strung together, sometimes mildly amusing, but rarely above the level of a very well-done Saturday morning cartoon. The audience, mostly the under-12 crowd, enjoyed itself enormously. I napped through part of it.
